This activity describes the journey of Holy Name Medical Center, a 361-bed hospital in Teaneck, NJ. Holy Name Medical Center was one of the first hospitals to experience a massive surge of COVID-19 patients. Our ASHP members are in various stages of preparing for, responding to, and recovering from the COVID-19 global pandemic. This is an extremely difficult time and as we – pharmacists, pharmacy residents, students pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians - continue to care for our patients, it is even more imperative to step-up our well-being for ourselves and the healthcare workforce community. Today, we chat with Laura Truhlar on lessons learned and advice to share related to workforce well-being.

Clinical Perspectives: Can a Vitamin or Antioxidant a Day Keep the Sepsis Away?

There has been a renewed interest in managing COVID-19 patients with septic shock and the use of vitamins and anti-oxidants such as Vitamin C and Zinc. Listen to our 2018 Midyear Clinical Meeting presentation by Craig Whitman and Lee Skrupky as they describe the mechanisms of action, toxicities, and pharmacokinetic considerations of vitamin C, thiamine, selenium, zinc and vitamin E in sepsis. They evaluate the literature describing the effect of vitamin or antioxidant supplementation on outcomes in patient with sepsis. The core concepts from this presentation can help pharmacists recommend appropriate vitamin or antioxidant supplements in patients with sepsis.

ASHP Launches New COVID-19 Microsite

Today on ASHPOfficial, we chat with Eric Maroyka about the transformation of our frequently accessed COVID-19 Resource Center into a new microsite that intuitively organizes the resources needed to effectively plan and respond to the pandemic. The microsite includes resources available to pharmacists related to treatment and supportive care, drug information, surveillance and tracking, knowledge and skill development, planning and readiness, advocacy efforts, and infection prevention.  ASHP will continue to enhance the site with new and updated content, which remains open to all healthcare professionals engaged in the COVID-19 response.
