PAIring SSHP initiatives with PAI 2030

The ASHP Practice Advancement Initiative (PAI) 2030 provides aspiration guidance and is intended to propel changes in pharmacy practice that will have a major impact on the responsible use of medicines. Student Societies of Health-System Pharmacists (SSHPs) are actively promoting the pillars of PAI 2030 within their chapters. Establishing Professional Identity as a New Practitioner

ASHP Advantage: Standardize 4 Safety: Taking Aim at Strategies for Adoption

Safety is at the forefront of all processes in the pharmacy department. ASHP has been a champion of safety since the organization originated more than 75 years ago. 

ASHP received funding from the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Safe Use Initiative to develop and implement national standardized concentrations for IV. and oral liquid medications. This is the first national inter-professional (physicians, pharmacists, nurses) initiative to standardize medication concentrations with the goal of reducing prescribing, dispensing, and medication errors for patients of all ages in settings ranging from hospital to home. This outstanding program, called Standardize 4 Safety, will have substantial downstream effects on safety, cost, efficiency, and error-reduction. Standardization will result in consolidated/converged product demand from hospitals, and more instances of ready-for-use drug preparations from manufacturers, simpler drug libraries, improvements to automatic drug recognition by infusion pumps, and improved clinical information system data exchange.

Featuring strategies sourced from several Black ASHP staff members, the discussion centers on joy as an active form of well-being among Black women. A Compassionate Approach to Acute Opioid Withdrawal

Harms from opioid misuse continue despite significant attention to this public health crisis.  Symptoms of acute opioid withdrawal are incredibly disabling and a leading driver in returning to use.  Numerous methods exist to palliate withdrawal symptoms and improve the likelihood a patient who uses opioids may achieve long term recovery.

The field of nanomedicine is a complex and rapidly growing scientific domain. Nanomedicine encompasses a large and diverse number of pharmaceutical formulations including liposomes, micelles, nanoparticles and polymer-drug conjugates. Pharmacists will be provided with a view of the landscape of nanomedicines, critical research gaps and implications for patient-safety and therapeutic efficacy.
